With the recent announcement of Fruits Baskets reboot, I feel like this is a gateway for animes that were chopped early or incomplete have their chances to make a come back for the sole purpose of rightful adaptions or rightful story completions.
In Fruits Baskets case, it’s both.
I want to have high hopes for series that were cancelled early for various reasons:
- Deadman Wonderland
- Gangsta
- CLAMP
I want to have high hopes for series that were rushed to end / didn’t even get an ending:
- Claymore
- Ranma ½
- Ouran High School Host Club
I want to have high hopes for the series that had absolute garbage / inconsistent adaptions:
- D. Gray Man
- Berserk
- Rave Master
I want to have high hopes for the series that ambiguously ended without [proper] closure:
- Gantz
- Charlotte
- Soul Eater
I want to have high hopes for the series that barely had a chance to tell its story:
- 91 Days
- Terror in Resonance
- Elfen Lied
All of these animes / mangas were robbed and I’d like to see them all be given justice. I truly believe with the reboot of Fruits Baskets it’s a pleasant new era we’re entering where this might seem possible.
However, with the mention of series that were cancelled for various reasons. I need to make something very clear.
I want to have high hopes for the series that don’t need to be touched at all:
what allura’s arc should’ve been about: learning to forgive herself for the pain of her past, and figuring out how to let go of it and not compare herself to what once was in order for the old to make way for the new. Being open to change and new ideas allows us to build towards a better future, and harboring desires for revenge blocks our path to true progress and peace.
what shiro’s arc should’ve been about: recognizing that he is not broken because of his body or his illness or his modifications or his traumatic experiences. That being a real hero comes from being able to stay true to your inner goodness, fight for what is right, and to rebuild yourself again and again, convincing those around you to do the same and never give up.
what lance’s arc should’ve been about: self confidence is made stronger by working through moments of self doubt. Without our insecurities, we wouldn’t be able to identify what makes us great in the first place. Our goals and our dreams are attainable as long as we are courageous enough to put in the work and try. We shouldn’t always look outward for the validation we deserve.
what keith’s arc should’ve been about: needing others is not a weakness, and losing people we care about doesn’t negate the value of forming close bonds with those around us. It is our relationships with others where we learn to accept and love ourselves. To love and be loved is a gift, and we can learn to navigate and lead others through those connections.
what hunk’s arc should’ve been about: fear is a universal trait, and being afraid of something doesn’t mean you aren’t brave. There is more than one way to be heroic, and continually believing in the power of trying to see the good in the universe and connect with people is always worthwhile. We all have things in common, even our fears, and acknowledging that is a strength.
what pidge’s arc should’ve been about: home is not a place. We are always linked to those we love, no matter how far apart we are. Our actions, stories and knowledge that we share amongst us all is what weaves us together. And doing things that would make someone proud is a way to stay connected with them, even if they’re not around.
decided to put these in a bit of a chronological order as i can’t help but form a story behind the scenes. it’s a storyteller’s habit. and yeah i do have an idea i would genuinely like to explore with gail simone as a crossover comic.
i don’t want to be the writer for this. but at the same time i always found diving into these things and exploring the character chemistry was the best way to get an artistic feeling for it.
this is also how i usually develop my own stories.
anyhow, while many think this is me drawing some shipping, in fact this a proof of concept for an adventure story featuring lara and diana. Gail simone at some point asked if they would kiss and i gave it some genuine thought. i am a character first kind of a writer, myself, so i contemplated this. then i decided, yes, probably.
after all, romantic subplots have been the bread and butter of adventure writing since its inception and i always liked that aspect of adventure stories.
i hope this puts some things in context from my end XD
